Botox Treatment in Birmingham, AL

Older woman sitting & smiling after BOTOX treatment at Cook Family DentalWe all want to look our best, and a healthy smile is an important part of the picture we present to the world. But there's no reason why a healthy smile can't be framed by a fresh, youthful face!

Life happens, and with it comes smiles, laughs, and frowns that end up as fine lines and wrinkles around your eyes and on your forehead. At Cook Family and Cosmetic Dentistry, we are pleased to add Botox treatment to our menu of esthetic services.

How Botox Works

Botox is a fluid that is injected into specific facial muscles to minimize muscle movement by temporarily blocking nerve signals. This FDA-approved treatment contains a tiny amount of purified botulinum toxin protein refined from the bacterium Clostridium botulinum.

Botox treatment smooths out fine lines and wrinkles and leaves you with a fresher, more youthful appearance. Application of Botox is a fast, non-surgical procedure, and patients typically experience few or no side effects, no downtime, and results that last for three to four months. In some cases, injections of Botox can gradually retrain facial muscles to relax and minimize lines and wrinkles for more extended periods of time.

Xeomin - An Alternative to Botox

Lady smiling after BOTOX treatment at Cook Family DentalXeomin (Zeo-min) is another injectable that is similar in makeup to Botox. However, unlike Botox, Xeomin has no additives, resulting in a purer form of the active ingredient.

Maximum effects of both Botox and Xeomin are visible after about two weeks, but Xeomin tends to have a more gradual onset than Botox. Studies have shown that both drugs are equally effective at reducing "dynamic" facial wrinkles and lines.

What to Expect from Botox Treatment

Before we begin, Dr. Aaron Cook will talk to you about your goals, the procedure itself, and the results you can expect. As part of his dental training, Dr. Cook has studied the entire anatomy of the head, neck, and oral cavity extensively. He has also completed advanced training in the administration of Botox, making him highly qualified to deliver comfortable Botox injections with precision and accuracy.

You can expect to feel a slight pinch as part of the injection; it is also common to experience some redness, soreness, or mild bruising, but these will fade after two or three days.

It can take three to five days to notice results as your facial muscles relax, but in about two weeks, you will see the full effects of treatment. And there's no worry that your face AAFE Member | Cook Family Dentistry | Birmingham, ALwill look "frozen" because surrounding muscles that Dr. Cook hasn't treated contract normally, leaving your facial expressions with a natural appearance.
