Hello! We are so glad you came to Dr. Cook's dental health blog. This is the place where we take the time to answer some of the questions our cosmetic dentistry patients are curious about. Today we are discussing veneers. Several of our patients recently have asked about porcelain veneers. You may have heard the word veneer used in conjunction with cosmetic dentistry, and that is because they are a popular and effective cosmetic dentistry tool.
What Exactly Are Veneers?
Veneers are thin covers for the front part of the teeth. They are usually used to correct tooth imperfections, such as chipping, staining, gaps, decay, or crooked teeth. Super-strong, tooth-colored porcelain laminate is shaped into thin shells and custom-fitted for each patient’s unique set of teeth.
The first step in the veneer process is to make a mold to work from. Dr. Cook will make a model of your teeth and take some photos of your smile. After creating an ideal smile wax-up from the models, a highly-trained dental ceramist will create the new, beautiful veneers.
It is important to note that because a little of the enamel from the tooth has to be removed so the veneers can be placed, this process is usually irreversible.
